DIY Denim Vest Tutorial

I’ve had so many requests on a small tutorial on the denim vest I posted yesterday so I figured I’d post a easy step-by-step. Super simple, right? If you chop up one of yours, tweet me a photo @SecretiveStyle! I always love to see what my readers are up to!

The Perfect Outfit

What I’m Wearing (links in pink)

Jacket: old (similar affordable find)

Dress: Ruby Rox – sold out (similar for under $50!)

Shoes: Target

Sunglasses: Fossil “Isabella” – sold out (similar affordable find)

Nails:  Maybelline Color Show “Pink Shock”

I love this outfit because it’s super breezy, comfy, and easy to throw on and run out the door. No matter what, you can’t go wrong with a simple summer dress, denim vest, and sandals.

It’s a funny story, really, about how I came about this vest. Let’s just be honest here – it’s originally a Hollister denim jacket. That in itself should show you I’ve had it for a long time. The sleeves seemed to only get shorter every year and I never wore it so one day, on a whim, I decided to chop them off. I love it so much now. When I saw this photo of Ashley Tisdale wearing a denim vest last year, I decided mine would be better off recycled into a more wearable style.

I really wish my sunnies weren’t sold out. They were a rare find for me last year at Dillard’s! After last summer, I found them on sale for nearly $22 and I’ve loved them ever since. My similar and affordable find is from Steve Madden and they look almost identical, for only $40!

I’m headed  to New Orleans for a few days tomorrow. Be sure to find me on Twitter & see what I’m up to in The Big Easy!

What’s your favorite simple summer look?

Pretty in Pink

Top: old (similar)

Skirt: Lush (similar)

Shoes: Steve Madden

Bag: Coach

Necklace: DIY c/o MadebyGirl

It comes as no surprise to me that I would unknowingly photograph this all pink ensemble in front of the courthouse. I’m feeling a little Elle Woods-ish. Bummer! Oh well, what can you do?

I have spent the past few months racking my brain over which top I could wear with this skirt and I finally came over this tank in my closet. I absolutely love all three different hues of pink combined together and got the inspiration from this outfit thought up by Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere. It makes me want to go somewhere nice and relax with a yummy glass of wine. Note to hubby: I’m in dior need of a dinner date!

Have you tried the all-pink trend? Or any other color combo?
