When it comes to decorating our home, I’ve never been one to splurge. I change my mind way too often to spend too much money on one piece. If I find something I just have to have, I’ll search for it at a few of my favorite, more affordable stores. 99% of the time, I’ve been able to find so many things that are similar or even identical to the more expensive versions.
We just moved for the third time in three years and I was so excited to have a space for my own office – equipped with the best natural light. If you take photos from home, you know that natural light is essential! Plus, I hate using overhead lighting in general – sunshine makes this girl feel good! Anyways, I decided to actually make it a space of my own but I knew it would be a little tricky considering I’m on a very tight budget with just starting my own business. I started with the staples: my desk, my computer, and my very fabulous pink chair.
I waited until my birthday and Christmas to ask for the big purchases and I’m so glad I did. It saved me from randomly spending too much money on something random throughout the year. My desk was only $100 and has, by far, been such an amazing investment. My parents bought it for me when John and I first got married. It was super simple to assemble and has held up through three moves..that says ALOT. It also looks extremely expensive, which I love. As for my computer and pink chair..those were gifts from the husband for my birthday and Christmas one year.
Then, I started loving gold and white decor and would see it literally everywhere but, as always, it was out of my price range. So, this past week I had the idea of taking a few things I already had (the vase, the pencil holder) and a few new purchases (the bins on the wall) and, using gold spray paint, make them usable. The vase is actually from anniversary flowers from I think our dating days a few years ago. It was a strange almost lime green so I never used it. It literally sat on top of the kitchen shelves for years without ever being touched, other than moving from one house to another.
The bins were in the $1 section at Target and were hot pink and cobalt blue! haha. I knew I couldn’t have that in my office but the style was exactly what I was looking for. So, I went to Hobby Lobby, grabbed some gold paint, and voila! Spray painting all of this and letting it dry literally was less than a 30 minute process.
As for my desk accessories, I haven’t paid more than $5 for any of it! Listed below is where each affordable item was purchased or a similar item. What’s your favorite place to shop when on a budget? I’d love new suggestions!
